Abstract
ALTHOUGH the occurrence of endogenous cytokinins has been studied extensively in higher plants, reports for the algae are restricted to marine planktonic forms1. There are, however, numerous reports on the effects of various added growth substances, both singly and in combination, in culture studies with algae2–4. We report here the identification of kinin-like substances in the stipe and holdfast regions of the brown alga Laminaria digitata.
