Degradation of Tryptophan Messenger: On the Degradation of Messenger RNA for the Tryptophan Operon in Escherichia coli

Abstract

Contrary to a previous report, messenger RNA for the tryptophan operon is degraded in the 5′—3′ direction. The following two articles describe how pulse labelling and hybridization experiments established this. In some conditions, the degradation of individual messengers starts before their synthesis is complete.
