Abstract
THE decapeptide angiotensin I is converted to an octapeptide angiotensin II by a plasma enzyme named the converting enzyme1. Bumpus et al.2 proposed the liver as a probable site of synthesis for the plasma enzyme, but it has recently been reported that angiotensin I is converted to angiotensin II in the vascular bed of the lung3. These investigators3 postulated that “the converting enzyme may be located on or in the pulmonary cells”.
