Control of Chloroplast RNA Synthesis in Chlamydomonas reinhardi

Abstract

WHEN certain strains of Escherichia coli are deprived of a required amino-acid their production of ribosomal ribo-nucleic acid (rRNA) and soluble RNA is reduced. The removal of any amino-acid has this effect. Such strains are said to be stringent. Strains mutant at the RC locus do not respond in this way to the removal of a required amino-acid and are said to be relaxed1,2.
