Decrease of 5-Hydroxytryptamine in the Brain provoked by Hydrocortisone and its Prevention by Allopurinol

Abstract

A decrease of 5-hydroxytryptamine in the brain after peripheral injection of hydrocortisone may be mediated through increased activity of tryptophan pyrrolase in the liver. This suggests a relationship between biochemical changes in depressive disease.
