Abstract
Formyl-methionyl-tRNA is bound to ribosomes by single stranded circular DNA of the phage fd. Addition of neomycin B to this complex permits direct translation of this DNA into protein, which implies that ribosomes do not require a free end on the messenger to initiate protein synthesis.
