Abstract
SILICATES of the amphibole group are known to decompose endothermically, at temperatures above 600° C, to give a pyroxene and other products1–3. The composition of the pyroxene and other products is dependent on the composition of the amphibole and on the conditions of reaction. For example, the amphibole crocidolite decomposes according to the following scheme2,4:
