Ecological Correlation of Water Loss in Burrowing Reptiles

Abstract

Loss of water to completely dry, flowing air has been measured in ten species belonging to five families of burrowing snakes and amphisbaenians. The marked differences in water loss confirmed earlier suggestions that the loss correlated with differences in the amount of moisture in the habitat rather than the size of the animal.
