Viruses in Fungi and Interferon Stimulation

Abstract

The active component of statolon—an anti-viral agent—is RNA of viral origin and not a polyanionic polysaccharide as previously thought. This article describes the isolation and some properties of the P. stoloniferum virus which is active in stimulating interferon production. An interferon inducing virus has also been found in a strain of Penicillium funiculosum.
