Abstract
DURING the past decade many clinical reports have suggested that splenectomized infants and children show increased susceptibility to bacterial infections. These reports lead to the suggestion that splenectomy in neonatal life might have a greater effect on the immunological capacity of an animal than does splenectomy in adult life. Dissenting reports have appeared and the subject remains controversial1,2.
