Abstract
GAMMA globulin can be demonstrated by the fluorescent antibody technique in some biopsy specimens of the left atrial appendage from patients with rheumatic heart disease and also post mortem in the heart in cases of acute rheumatic fever1–5. The distribution is focal and usually bears no direct relation to cellular rheumatic lesions, although gamma globulin can occasionally be demonstrated in the latter. We have used antibody labelled with ferritin to study the location of gamma globulin in relation to individual components of the endocardium and subendocardium.
