Interstratified Structure formed from a Pre-heated Mica by Acid Treatments

Abstract

IN this study we used sericite specimens of the 2M1 type. The chemical composition of one of them is shown in Table 1a. This sample was pulverized to a fine powder in an agate mortar, heated in a platinum crucible for some time (5 min–4 h), quenched to room temperature and treated with hydrochloric or sulphuric acid. In this way the sample was easily changed, wholly or in part, into an interstratified mineral.
