Abstract
ATTENTION has recently boon drawn to the differences between avian leukosis and Marek's disease (neural lymphomatosis) in the chicken1. Avian leukosis is caused by a closely related and well characterized group of RNA viruses, but the nature of the causative agent of Marek's disease is not known2,3. The in vivo assay of blood and tumour material from chicks infected with both the H P RS B14 classical strain and the HPRS 16 strain of acute Marek's disease indicates that under the conditions of the experiments the infective agent was strictly associated with the cells and could not be separated from them3,4.
