Trifluoromethyl Thiolsulphonates

Abstract

THIOLSULPHONATES are a group of organic sulphur compounds known since 1839 (ref. 1) but their antibacterial and antifungal properties were only discovered in 1949 (ref. 2). While investigating the antimicrobial mechanism of thiolsulphonates we prepared a new series of substituted thiolsulphonates, the trifluoromethyl thiolsulphonates, RSO2SCF3, by reaction of zinc alkyl (or aryl) sulphinates with trifluoromethanesulphenyl chloride.
