Leaf Area Estimation by Linear Measurements in Ricinus communis

Abstract

THE measurement of leaf area is often important in agricultural investigations, but the lack of a simple method means that the measurements can rarely be obtained. Linear measurements of leaf dimensions have been used for leaf area estimations in tobacco1,2, grass crops3, tropical forest vegetation4 and other crops5,6. A similar method has been used in an attempt to derive a simple regression equation for the estimation of the leaf area of Ricinus communis.
