Abstract

METHIONINE sulphoximine (MSO) is a toxic agent frequently used to produce experimental convulsions in various laboratory animals. These seizures are similar to human epilepsy, and several findings have pointed toward a possible biochemical mechanism of the convulsant1–3. Peters and Tower4 found a marked inhibition of glutamine synthesis in brain slices and a specific inhibition of glutamine synthetase has been observed5,6. In spite of these physiological and neurochemical changes, a morphological correlate for the action of MSO has not been found7.
