N-Amidino-3,5-diamino-6-chloropyrazine-carboxamide : an Active Diuretic in the Carboxamide Series

Abstract

SINCE the initial observation that steroidal hormones from the adrenal cortex promote renal conservation of sodium was made some forty years ago, it has been demonstrated that aldosterone is the most potent sodium-retaining hormone produced by the adrenal cortex1,2. A marked increase in the secretion of aldosterone has been associated with nephrosis, liver cirrhosis, toxaemia of pregnancy and congestive heart failure3–5.
