Two Types of Neurones Sensitive to Motion in the Optic Lobe of the Fly

Abstract

THE multitude of evoked neurone responses that have been observed in vertebrate and invertebrate visual systems are interesting in themselves but are difficult to interpret out of a behavioural context. We wish to report the results of our investigation of two types of neurones sensitive to motion in the optic lobes of the blowfly and the housefly and the responses of these units to stimuli which have been shown by several authors1–3 to evoke optomotor responses.
