Abstract
WE have recently obtained spectroscopic evidence for the formation of reduced metal valency states in γ-irradiated 5.4 M H2SO4 glasses at 77° K (reaction (1) where Mn+ = Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Ga3+, Ag+, Cd2+, In3+ and Tl+)1. In the course of this work we have also investigated non-reducible solutes such as sodium chloride and sodium bromide.
