Irradiation Embrittlement of Low-boron Type 304 Stainless Steel

Abstract

THERE is a growing amount of literature1–7 that describes the magnitude and characteristics of the irradiation-induced embrittlement of alloys at high temperatures. These data appear to be consistent with the hypothesis that the grain boundary embrittlement is due to the helium generated by the 10B (n, α) (ref. 7) Li thermal neutron capture reaction1,8,9.
