Surfactant Lipids of Plant Quantasomes

Abstract

THE plant sulpholipid, 6-sulpho-α-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1→1′)-2′,3′-di-O-acyl-D-glycerol, has been found in all photosynthetic organisms so far investigated1–3 and only in such organisms. Although its biological role and its localization in photosynthetic tissues have not been experimentally elucidated, the observed relation between its occurrence and photosynthetic activity suggested a possible relation between this surfactant lipid and plant photosynthesis4.
