Genetic and Non-genetic Factors in Chromatographic Behaviour of Poliovirus

Abstract

SOME variants of poliovirus (E+) do not adsorb on DEAE-cellulose provided neutral 0.01ā€“0.02 M phosphate buffer is used as a diluent; under identical conditions some other variants (Eāˆ’) are almost completely detained on the ion-exchanger and can be eluted only with solutions of increased ionic strength1,2. The E character of polio-virus may be considered as a genetic property which has no complete correlation with any other marker investigated so far3ā€“6.
