X-ray Diffraction from Living Striated Muscle during Contraction

Abstract

FOR some time X-ray diffraction techniques have been used to study living muscle in the resting state1–4. Using a modified Franks's type of small-angle camera5,6 and a Hilger microfocus X-ray generator, it has been possible for the first time to record equatorial and meridional X-ray reflexions from striated muscle during contraction as well as during rest.
