Synaptic Contacts between Neurosecretory Fibres and Pituicytes in the Pituitary of the Eel

Abstract

CELLS described by Bargmann as pituicytes1 are present in the neural component of the neuro-intermediate lobe of the eel pituitary. Recent investigations with the optical and electron microscopes reveal a closer relationship between these pituicytes and neurosecretory fibres than has previously been suspected.
