Abstract

IN selecting chelating agents to test their ability to remove internally deposited metals, the magnitude of the stability constant of the complex is an obvious criterion. Schubert1 rightly points out that a more practical guide is the ratio of the stability constant of the chelate, KML, to that for omnipresent calcium, KCaL. This situation is illustrated in Table 1 for Fe (III) and Ca (II).
