Hæmatopoietic Stem Cells

Abstract

NORMAL hæmatopoiesis is initiated and maintained by hæmatopoietic stem cells. These cells perform two functions: (1) they differentiate into mature hæmic elements, and (2) they maintain and renew the population of stem cells. It is these stem cells which seed, differentiate and reproduce, thus effecting successful hæmatopoietic transplants.
