Abstract
THE complex K[P t(acac)2Cl] has recently been shown to contain two different types of acetylacetone groups1; one being bonded as the conventional oxygen bidentate group and the other through the γ-carbon atom of the acetylacetone (I). On acidification a bright yellow complex (II) separates which is sensitive to light. The ‘acid’ complex is sparingly soluble in water, but readily dissolves in organic solvents. On standing for prolonged periods in benzene, a red binuclear complex di-μ-chloro bis(acetylacetonato) diplatinium II is formed.
