Formation of a Lysergic Acid Derivative during the Parasitic Development of a Strain of Claviceps paspali Stevens and Hall

Abstract

THE production of a simple derivative of lysergic acid in submerged culture by a strain of Claviceps paspali was reported by Arcamone et al.1 and identified as D-lysergic acid α-hydroxyethylamide. The behaviour of the strain during in vivo development on a host plant has been examined to establish whether this fungus produces the same lysergic acid derivative as in submerged culture.
