Abstract
IN a dietary condition in which only B12 of the vitamins and methionine of the amino-acids are active for growth in the chick, it has been demonstrated that orotic acid is a growth factor1. One biochemical hypothesis on the effect of orotic acid in B12 and methionine deficiency is that orotic acid acts in the metabolism of the 1–C unit.
