Abstract
THE occurrence of leukæmia in mice of low-leukæmic strains, injected with urethane (ethyl carbamate) at birth or soon after, has recently been reported by several investigators1. Adult animals, on the contrary, do not seem to be very susceptible to the leukæmogenic activity of urethane, though there is some contradictory evidence2. However, urethane has been shown to be highly effective in increasing the incidence of leukæmia induced in adult mice by other agents, such as X-ray, œstrogenic hormones, or methylcholanthrene3.
