Abstract
INCREASED catabolism of plasma proteins by leakage into the gastrointestinal tract and, subsequent digestion by the intestinal enzymes may play an important part in normal plasma protein degradation1,2. All classes of plasma proteins seem to leak into the gastrointestinal lumen, but only albumin has been examined quantitatively3–5. In the work summarized here a quantitative estimation of the transfer of plasma γ-globulin to intestinal lumen has been made and suggestive evidence is presented that the amount of γ-globulin catabolized in the intestine of the dog is determined mainly by the capillary permeability of γ-globulin.
