Abstract
THE effect of adsorbed gases on the electron spin resonance signals of amorphous carbons has been reported by a number of workers1–3. In general, it has been found that whereas gases such as H2, Ar, N2 and Cl2 (ref. 4) have no effect on the resonance signals, paramagnetic gases such as O2 and NO have been found to have a large reversible effect at room temperature. This behaviour has been ascribed to the magnetic properties of the paramagnetic gas molecules.
