In vitro Measurements of Oxygen Consumption of Human Heart Muscle

HYPOTHERMIA has been used extensively in medicine to depress the metabolism of the body tissues1,2. Frequent studies have been made of the reduction in oxygen consumption brought about by various grades of hypothermia, both in whole animals3–5 and in isolated organs and tissues6,7, but isolated human heart muscle has not so far been examined intensively.
