Gibberellin-like Substances in Plants

Abstract

THE universal, or even widespread, occurrence of gibberellin-like substances in the plant kingdom has yet to be demonstrated. Such substances are known to occur in numerous angiosperms1, the brown alga Fucus vesiculosus2, and certain fungi1. Previous attempts to demonstrate the presence of gibberellin-like substances in gymnosperms3,4 and ferns4 have been unsuccessful. This communication reports the first evidence for the presence of gibberellin-like substances in the latter two groups.
