Incorporation of Tritiated Thymidine in Various Organs of the Mouse

Abstract

INCORPORATION of labelled precursors into the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in cells of the seminal vesicle of the mouse has been reported previously1,2. A comparison of mitotic counts and the proportion of labelled nuclei (synthetic index) showed more of the latter than seemed necessary for proliferation and metabolic activity of DNA was suggested as the reason for the high uptake of precursors into DNA2. In the earlier experiments exposure times were adjusted to give averages of 30–50 grains per positive nucleus. In this communication are reported new observations on autoradiographs with 20 times the previous exposure.
