Abstract
IT HAS recently been shown1 that rabbit anti-rat serum causes typical anaphylaxis in albino rats on intravenous injection; on isolated peritoneal mast cells this anti-serum induces characteristic morphological modifications1,2 and the release of histamine. Recent experiments3 have shown that it is possible to produce an anaphylactic reaction in rats, similar to that in guinea pigs4, after application of human γ-globulin as antigen and intravenous injection of the corresponding anti-serum 48 hr. later (reversed passive anaphylaxis). Anti-rat γ-globulin serum obtained by fractionation of rat serum and immunization of rabbits with the components also caused anaphylaxis3 while the application of anti-rat albumin had no such effects.
