Determination of the Amino-Acid Composition of Bovine Growth Hormone

Abstract

THE amino-acid composition of bovine growth hormone has been determined1 by Levy's method2. This procedure, which involves paper chromatography of dinitrophenyl derivatives of amino-acids, is subject to certain limitations such as variable recoveries of tyrosine and lack of resolution of the leucine derivatives. The development of automated ion-exchange chromatography of amino-acids3 has prompted a re-investigation of the amino-acid composition of this protein.
