Abstract
SCRUTINY of the literature1–6 revealed that the oxidative enzyme, succinic dehydrogenase, is present in the mitochondria, occasionally in the cell membranes2, of all mammalian cells. The absence of this enzyme in the nuclei including the nucleoli is a very characteristic feature, except in bird erythrocytes, which according to Brachet7 may be due to the fact that bird erythrocytes have no mitochondria.
