Abstract
GREAT differences exist in the inter-individual fluctuation of the voluntary intake of alcohol by laboratory rats on free choice between 10 per cent alcohol and water1. This is also true of laboratory mice2. But on the whole the average alcohol consumption within a species of animal is constant. It can be said that each species has its own specific liking for alcohol.
