Abstract
IT has been reported1 that serum from hepatectomized rats when injected into normal rats will stimulate mitosis in the livers of the recipients. This finding could not, however, be confirmed by other workers2. In work reported earlier3, we found that plasma from liepatectomized rats, which was collected using heparin to prevent clotting, stimulated both mitosis and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis in rat liver parenchymal cells, when injected into normal rats. On the other hand, serum or citrated plasma from hepatectomized rats had no apparent stimulating effect. For this reason, the effect of heparin itself on the proliferation of normal rat liver was examined.
