Estimation of Small Percentages of Fœtal Hæmoglobin


IN the alkali denaturation method of Singer, Chernoff and Singer1 the one-minute residue of normal adult hæmoglobin gives a spectrophotometric reading of 0.5–1.8 per cent ‘alkali resistant hæmoglobin’. It is well known1,2,3, that most of this residue is not true fœtal hæmoglobin, but some other hæm-compound, the nature of which is unknown.
