Abstract
BUTTIAUX and his colleagues1 have questioned the reliability of the urea test for the identification of members of the genus Proteus in routine investigations of Enterobacteriaceae. They found many urease-negative Proteus strains, and, using Stuart's urea medium2 they, moreover, detected many urease-positive strains of the genus Paracolobactrum.
