Abstract
A SPECIES of Hirsutella, parasitic on larvæ of the spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana(Clem.))1, when grown in liquid culture produces a highly viscous metabolite. Preliminary tests indicated that this substance might be a polysaccharide and since it has been reported that polysaccharides produced by some parasitic fungi can cause significant reactions in the host2, it seemed desirable to investigate this material.
