Abstract
IN the course of the studies on the physiology of plant pathogenic fungi causing diseases in tropical crops of Mexico, several strains of Colletotrichum coffeanum Noack were isolated from coffee plants (Coffea arabica) showing typical signs of leaf spotting and die-back. Very little is known about the nutritional requirements of this fungus, although observations concerning the taxonomy and pathogenicity have been reported from time to time1. However, some previous reports have made reference to various aspects of the physiological behaviour of the conidial stage of Glomerella cingulata 2, which is identified as C. coffeanum 3. The purpose of this communication is to summarize our observations on one of the isolated strains.
