Ferric Perchlorate Complex Ion

Article metrics

Abstract

SUTTON1, and later Sykes2, have reported association constants for the formation of ferric perchlorate complex ion, FeClO4++, although other investigators have been unable to find evidence for the existence of this species3,4. Inasmuch as perchloric acid and perchlorate salts are commonly used for maintaining constant ionic strength in physical-chemical measurements on the assumption that perchlorate ion does not complex appreciably with cations in aqueous solution, the question of the existence and extent of perchlorate complexing is a matter of some importance.
