A Possible Ecologial Effect of Upwelling in a Submarine Canyon

Abstract

DURING July–November 1956, an exploratory ecological survey along the south-west edge of the La Jolla submarine canyon was conducted over a sandy bottom using self-contained underwater breathing apparatus1 diving techniques (for a chart of the region see Shepard and Emery2), and the following preliminary information may be of general interest.
