Germanium Enrichment in Lignites from the Lower Lias of Dorset

Abstract

CERTAIN carbonaceous inclusions from the United States are exceptionally rich in germanium1,2; hitherto no such enrichment has been reported from the British Isles. A number of lignite specimens recently collected from the Lower Lias of Dorset have now been shown to have similar concentrations of germanium to those of the American samples.
