Abstract
THE ability of pilocarpine to deplete the pancreas exocrine cells of zymogen granules has been utilized by cytologists1 and biochemists2 in their studies of secretion processes in this very active organ. Generally, changes observed microscopically or results derived chemically have been accepted as attributable to the direct effect of the drug on the pancreas. The purpose of this report is to direct attention to several other effects of pilocarpine which should be of interest to those following this line of investigation. These probably do not diminish the value of the drug as an experimental tool, but they do indicate that its effects are not confined to the pancreas. This fact should be taken into account in the interpretation of results.
