Occurrence of Gamma-Guanidinobutyric Acid

Abstract

IN the course of studies on soluble nitrogenous extractives from various sources using paper chromatography, γ-guanidinobutyric acid was found to be rather widely distributed in Nature. Using paper chromatography, we have identified this guanidine compound in some insects, in various edible fruits and in the tissues and body fluids of higher mammals, and we have isolated it from cattle brains.
