Abstract
REPORTS (based on electron microscopy)1 of the presence of a subepidermal basement membrane in human skin conflict with the orthodox histological view2 that dermo-epidermal adhesion is effected by an interlocking of the subepidermal ‘reticular fibres’ with the foot processes of the basal cells, and that no basal membranous structure apart from this layer of reticulin exists.
